This eight-week, graded course is linked in sequence with Academic Reading 4. The course builds skills in dictionary use, vocabulary development, outlining/mapping, and reading comprehension for learners whose goal is to enroll in higher-level developmental or college-level courses; to pass the GED/HSED; or to achieve personal, work, civic, or family goals. Students learn to write summaries and responses to readings that demonstrate understanding of text structures. Skills are acquired using readings from the required textbook and a variety of authentic non-fiction and fiction sources. Prerequisite: COMPASS 13-39; or ASSET 26-29; or TABE M or D 4.0-8.9; or consent of instructor. Note: You must enroll in Academic Reading 3, 73-858-732 and Academic Reading 4, 74-858-742 within the same semester - same time, days, and instructor.
