This eight-week, graded course is linked in sequence with Academic Reading 6. The course assists students who are reading at the high school level to broaden their vocabulary and strengthen their reading skills so they can better tackle college textbook material. Emphasis is placed on applying reading comprehension strategies to excerpts from college textbooks from a variety of disciplines. Study skills and test-taking strategies further enhance students’ self-confidence as learners. Prerequisite: COMPASS 36-60; or ASSET 30-34; or TABE 9.0-10.9; or consent of instructor. Note: You must enroll in Academic Reading 5, 77-858-752 and Academic Reading 6, 77-858-792 within the same semester - same time, days, and instructor.
