This eight-week course has been designed to help master the basic skills needed to write effectively. Its lessons and activities will increase the learners’ understanding of the mechanics of writing including: punctuation, capitalization, spelling, sentence structure and grammar. Students will also learn how to apply the various steps in the writing process, which will help them to become a more confident writer. Academic Writing 3 emphasizes writing simple narrative descriptions on familiar topics. Learners complete forms such as job applications and strive for consistent use of basic grammar and punctuation. This course also focuses on paragraph structure and development. Prerequisite: TABE 4.0-5.9 or consent of instructor; COMPASS writing 21-99 and E-WRITE 3; or COMPASS writing 21-47 and E-WRITE 4. Note: You must enroll in Academic Writing 3, 73-851-737 and Academic Writing 4, 74-851-747 within the same semester - same time, days, and instructor.
