Academic Writing 5

This eight-week course has been designed to help master the basic skills needed to write effectively. Its lessons and activities will increase the learners’ understanding of the mechanics of writing including: punctuation, capitalization, spelling, sentence structure and grammar. Students will also learn how to apply the various steps in the writing process, which will help them to become a more confident writer. This course also focuses on paragraph structure and development. Learners’ writing is cohesive with clearly expressed ideas supported by relevant detail. Prerequisite: TABE 9.0-10.9 or consent of instructor; COMPASS writing 48-99 and E-WRITE 4; COMPASS 38-99 and E-WRITE 5; or COMPASS writing 1-31 and E-WRITE 6. Note: You must enroll in Academic Writing 5, 77-851-757 and Academic Writing 6, 77-851-797 within the same semester - same time, days, and instructor.
