The first of a two-semester sequence, Chemistry 1 gives the fundamental concepts of inorganic chemistry that includes the topics of measurement, chemical nomenclature, chemical reactions and stoichiometry, atomic structure, thermochemistry, chemical bonding and solution chemistry. It emphasizes the basic principles and quantitative measurements used on chemistry. It consists of three hours of lecture and one, two-hour laboratory period per week. This course is not intended for transfer. Prerequisite: General Chemistry, 10-806-134 with a "C" or better and a 40+ on the algebra component of COMPASS or one year, each, of high school biology and chemistry with a "C" or better.
