Survey of Polish Theater

Survey of Polish Theater explores the millennium-long history of the Polish theater in the context of its unique role in Poland - a place of spiritual freedom and a guardian of national identity. Emphasis will be put on 16th century phenomenon of the Civic Theater, 19th century Romantic drama, Polish share in the Great Reform of Theater in the 19th and 20th century. Special segments will examine the influence of the historic turning point of 1989 - a change in the system and the return of democratic freedom to Polish theatrical life and the achievements of Polish avant-garde and experimental theater of 21st century.
