U.S. Latino Literature

This course explores U.S. Latino texts, including poetry, fiction, drama, and autobiography by Mexican-American, Puerto-Rican American, Cuban-American and Dominican-American writers. Writers from other Latino groups may also be included. Class discussion examines the rich and varied literary traditions of Latino communities in the United States. Students analyze issues of theme, genre, language, cultural identity and social and political experiences, as reflected in the texts chosen for the course. Classes are conducted in English. All required texts were originally written in English or are offered in English translation. Prerequisite: English 1, 20-801-201, or Communication Skills 1, 10-801-151.
