Vietnam/American-1945-Pres

This course will survey the intersection of Vietnamese and American history from 1945 to the present. It will examine the roots of our involvement in Southeast Asia after World War II through the defeat of the French in the 1950’s. It will explore the principal causes and effects of the expanded war in the 1960’s both in Vietnam and in the United States—upon Americans and upon Vietnamese. It will conclude with a section discussing the legacy of the war exploring continuing issues like U.S./Vietnamese relations, Southeast Asian refugees in the U.S. and the effect of the war on veterans. Prerequisite: English 1, 20-801-201; or Comm. Skills 1, 10-801-151; or College Reading Strategies, 10-808-101; with a C or better, or appropriate reading placement scores.
